Another project of Bosnian Handicrafts/BHcrafts has been successfully completed!

In cooperation with the local community, NGO Bosnian handicrafts, after provision of one month training, in the advanced skills of traditional handicrafting, for more than twenty women from Vogosca Municipality, invited women who have participated at the training, to join BHcrafts production, offering them work engagement.

"Hobby as Profession" project, implemented by Bosnian Handicrafts/BHcrafts in Vogosca Municipality, is one of the few that has produced actual outcomes - not just providing free training to women who possess the traditional handcrafting skill, that is common in this area, also introducing them to the intangible cultural heritage of people and nationalities in BiH; but also providing the ability for work engagement, where women work from home, producing handcrafts, thus generating additional or basic income for themselves.

Just during December 2018, instead of the planned seven, nine participants of the training have visited Bosnian handicrafts, expressing their will to join BHcrafts production and further develop their handcrafting (crocheting and knitting) skills, which are highly appreciated today, not only in BiH, but also in the foreign market. The rest of the women from the Training , use their newly acquired knowledge for their own needs, or work for themselves, in that way generating additional income for their home budget.

The final event of the project was held on April, 17 2019 in the KSC Vogošća, where attendees had an opportunity to see exhibition of handicrafts, produced by women from Vogosca municipality, during and after the training, as well as fashion show where models presented modern, handmade products, produced by traditional knitting and crocheting techniques. We used this opportunity to thank the women, award their successful completion of the training and their dedication to work, by providing them Certificates, but also to thank ReLOaD Local Coordinator, on behalf of Vogosca Municipality, Mr. Amir Misirlić for help and support throughout the project. At the final event, a representative of UNDP, Mr. Emir Bašić, addressed the audience.

Although the project was officially completed, to the satisfaction of the training participants, the Bosnian Handicrafts/BHcrafts and others involved in the project, BHcrafts continued to cooperate with 6 women who were part of this project.

Positive stories, such as "Hobby as Profession" project, exist in local communities and it is important to promote them, and with practical example showcase that, with little effort and will, traditional patterns can be modern and traditional handicrafting can provide sustainable monthly income, transforming a casual hobby into valued profession!

The last course in knitting and crocheting skills, which was part of intensive advanced training, within the project "Hobby as Profession", was held at the end of November in Vogosca Municipality. The training consisted of 8 intensive two-hour courses, for advancing participant’s skills in knitting and crocheting, and was led by two experienced instructors, Aida and Emira, who have been engaged in BHcrafts production for several years, now.

Each Tuesday and Thursday, during November, women of different ages, were coming together to learn and share learned. During the training, various products of handmade work were produced, using knitting and crocheting traditional skills, as well as two big products, that were knitted and crocheted by joint forces of all attending participants. All mentioned product will be presented at the final manifestation - fashion show and exhibition of produced handicrafts, that is planned to be held in April 2019.

We are pleased that the participants are satisfied with the training, and that, according to them, they have learned a lot. What they have especially emphasized as being useful, was learning how to produce handmade accessories based on the pattern of the finished product, such as handmade toys and gloves. Learning how to knit and crochet, following the pattern, is the long-term practice that Bosnian Handicrafts/BHcrafts has been applying for years now, as this method of advancing handmade work has been shown to be the most effective method of learning, especially when it comes to meeting the standards and the needs of the market. We are particularly proud of the fact that many participants, have seen, for the first time, some of the new traditional patterns, that are part of cultural heritage of people in BiH, and which when merged with modern design are interesting to local and foreign customers.

UHD Bosanske rukotvorine/BHcrafts, as a continuation of the project "Hobby as Profession", plans to engage at least seven women from the training, who have shown interest to get engaged in work in BHcrafts production.

We thank our participants: Semina, Vezima, Ismeta, Sejda, Ferida, Dževada, Mara, Fatima, Belma, Mirsada, Dzejna, Zumreta, Maida, Muniba, Samira, Ivanka, Nada, Alma and others on their time, enthusiasm and dedication to acquire new knowledge and skills during the training.

Bosnian Handicrafts/BHcrafts, within the project "Hobby as Profession", started the implementation of advanced Training on knitting and crocheting for more than 20 women from the Vogosca Municipality. Director Lejla Radonic opened the training and welcomed the participants, explaining the purpose of the Training and Fair-Trade standards, as well as work engagement opportunities.

The Training is led by two experienced trainers, Aida and Emira, who have been engaged in BHcrafts production for the last few years. The training workshops are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, in November, during which women learn, but also socialize, exchanging experiences and knowledge.

We look forward to each workshop, when new crocheted and knitted products are being created that will be presented at the fashion show and exhibition, at the final ceremony when we will deliver certificates to the training participants, at this final manifestation. The fashion show and exhibition will be opened to all those who are interested, and this is additional motivation, for participating women at the training, to bring their skills and patience to handicrafts produced during the training.

For the participants from the training who show interest, there is possibility of work engagement in BHcrafts production, which provides regular basic or additional income, and is in line with Fair Trade standards.
